Project Spotlight: The Mooring of Kennebunk – The Mooring Over the Years
Introducing The Mooring of Kennebunk, located at 80 York St. in Kennebunk, Maine! Providing architectural design and interior design services, GTD is proud to share the completion of our third memory care community project for The Mooring Family, building directly upon the success of the award-winning ‘small-house model’ pioneered at both The Mooring on Foreside and The Mooring at The Downs.
Through the ‘small-house’ model, our design is structured around the needs of residents across twelve private suites with amenities within their reach. The suites open into shared areas, a living room, dining room, kitchen, and spaces for quiet relaxation or socializing with other residents.
Consistent with the other Mooring communities, the interior features custom millwork, coastal cottage aesthetics, and includes an abundance of natural light. The shared areas feature views of a secure, landscaped backyard that provides a safe and accessible outdoor space for residents to explore and relax in. The overall design supports a high staff-to-resident ratio and a care philosophy that integrates residents into everyday household activities, ensuring that The Mooring of Kennebunk successfully delivers specialized care through a residential aesthetic.
The Mooring on Foreside is an award-winning memory care home that also adopts the small-house concept within a New England Cape style. Designed with custom millwork, intimate spaces, and tasteful residential features, this home also aims to offer residents a familiar and comforting home environment. Our design of The Mooring on Foreside won the IIDA Healthcare Interior Design and Senior Housing News Architecture and Designs awards in 2017!
Modeled after The Mooring on Foreside, The Mooring at the Downs is a full-service assisted living memory care home with the same classic, comfortable New England feel- this time within the budding Scarborough Downs neighborhood. Similar to the other projects, the layout was made with support, accessibility, and minimizing challenges to residents and staff in mind. Updated amenities include laundry space, the secure backyard, and den/family room.
The Mooring on Foreside design also received the 2017 IIDA Healthcare Interior Design award, and 2017 Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Award for Best Stand Alone Memory Care design!
